Max Tegmark's new film Delisted: how obedient AI could build a 1984 world
tegmark · x · 2026-10-06
MIT physicist and FLI founder Max Tegmark releases Delisted, a short film about the third dystopian AI scenario to avoid: even without AI going rogue, obedient AI could push society toward a 1984 world.
He frames four scenarios: 1) rogue AI, 2) obedient AI misused, 3) obedient AI causes 1984, 4) race-to-replace by obedient AI. The plot: when AI-driven power concentration sparks protests, the government's response isn't force but erasure—dissenters get Delisted, wiped from every financial, digital and legal system. Written and directed by Michael Patrick Clarkson, starring Katie Parker and Jamie Bamber, produced by Space Digital with FLI, featuring the original song Bleed Us Anew.
