Mistral officially releases Mistral Large 4 (aka Le Chonk): 1T total parameters, natively multimodal, 49B active. It claims to be the best open-weights model from the US or Europe on aggregated benchmarks, state-of-the-art on cyber defense, manufacturing and finance workloads, and surpasses closed frontier models on visual grounding. Built end-to-end in Europe, deployable via Mistral's own cloud, available via API today, with open weights release expected end of October. A commenter notes it's reaching GLM-5.3 level.
