Mistral launches Large 4: 1T params, 49B active, Europe's best open-weights model

Mistral released its flagship Mistral Large 4 (aka Le Chonk): 1T total parameters with 49B active, natively multimodal. Mistral claims it's the best open-weights model from the US or Europe on aggregated benchmarks, SOTA on critical workloads like cyber defense, manufacturing and finance, and surpasses closed frontier models on visual grounding. Built end-to-end in Europe, deployable from Europe via Mistral's own infrastructure.
