Mistral launches Le Chonk: a 1T-parameter multimodal model with open weights due end of October

Mistral officially unveils Mistral Large 4, nicknamed Le Chonk:
- Scale: 1T total parameters, natively multimodal, 49B active
- Benchmarks: claimed best open-weights model from the US or Europe on aggregated benchmarks; state-of-the-art on cyber defense, manufacturing and finance workloads, surpassing closed frontier models on visual grounding
- Deployment: forged end-to-end in Europe, deployable via Mistral's own cloud infrastructure
- Availability: API available today; open weights on HF by end of October
Developer @qtnx says they contributed to its code and cyber capabilities.
