Mistral launches 1T-parameter multimodal Large 4 preview, open weights by month-end
qtnx_ · x · 2026-10-06
Mistral released a public preview of Mistral Large 4 (codename "le Chonk"), a natively multimodal model with 1 trillion total parameters and 49 billion active ones. It claims state-of-the-art open-weight performance in coding, agentic workflows, and enterprise domains like cybersecurity, finance, and law — and says it beats frontier closed models on visual grounding. Open weights drop by end of the month, pending real-world red-teaming with security firms, partners, and governments; the RL run is still ongoing.
