Open-source plugin anonymizes names in Claude Code prompts to dodge account bans
vista8 · x · 2026-10-06
vista8 shared an open-source privacy plugin for Claude Code born of users' paranoia over Anthropic's account bans.
- claude-my-privacy (v0.5.0) swaps configured names/company names for pseudonyms before text reaches the model, restores originals before local tool execution, re-applies substitution to tool output, and tries to restore names in displayed replies.
- It only handles explicitly configured terms, not general PII; uses best-effort substitution that never locks the session, and makes no network calls.
- Config lives in a private mappings. under /.config; installed via a local plugin marketplace; verified on macOS with Claude Code 2.1.290.
- The author suggests extending it to translate Chinese conversations into English to further mask identity.
