The Guardian reports that energy company Drax plans to convert part of its North Yorkshire biomass plant into a 1.2GW datacentre for AI demand. Campaigners' analysis finds it would need to burn 4.9m tonnes of wood annually, producing nearly twice the yearly emissions of all Gatwick flights — dubbed one of the dirtiest datacentres. Meanwhile 315 UK datacentres are queued for grid connection, totaling 73GW, almost double the UK's peak winter demand.
