How the new Mandelbrot area estimate works: quadtree pruning plus random boundary sampling on H200s
geoffreyirving · x · 2026-10-06
The author explains the method: a quadtree proves cells are entirely inside (Newton's method finds an attracting cycle, Koebe bounds the distance) or outside (distance estimates). The 1e13 remaining cells straddling the boundary are randomly sampled, iterating each point up to 2^32 steps using a few H200-days.
