Claude-assisted CUDA compute pins Mandelbrot set area to 1.506591883653, 60x tighter than 2012 record
geoffreyirving · x · 2026-10-06
Geoffrey Irving reports a new estimate of the Mandelbrot set's area: μ(M) = 1.506591883653 ± 4.7e-11 (95% CI), computed with Claude-assisted analysis and heavily optimized CUDA. This improves on Thorsten Förstemann's 2012 best estimate of 1.5065918849 ± 2.8e-9 by roughly 60x. Follow-up posts and the open-source girving/mandelbrot repo detail the methodology.
