Follow-up in the consciousness thread: because he finds octopus consciousness plausible, the author is willing to meet algorithmic functionalists halfway, staying broadly agnostic about which characteristics of human brain function are necessary preconditions for consciousness and which are unrelated—since consciousness likely has multiple production paths.
