Paula reports that frontier models are actually quite bad at figuring out where photos were taken. Former OpenAI policy head Miles Brundage speculates this could be because models were intentionally nerfed — or that unrestricted models might do better — noting that since o3, models had enough reasoning, image understanding and web search to geolocate photos fairly easily.
