Hermes Agent merges pluggable computer-use drivers, one active backend at a time
Teknium · x · 2026-10-06
NousResearch's hermes-agent has merged a PR allowing external plugins to ship their own computer-use drivers. A single-select mechanism (computeruse.backend) determines which provider is active at any time, with the built-in cua-driver now just one option among many. The design mirrors the existing patterns for memory providers, context engines, and cron schedulers: bundled plugins/computeruse/<name>/ directories are discovered first, then user plugins under $HERMESHOME/plugins/, registered via registercomputeruseprovider / ComputerUseProvider. Teknium notes this paves the way for swapping in TryCUA once it lands in the plugins catalog.
