Google Docs adds native Markdown editing, enabling human-agent collaboration
paulfabretti · x · 2026-10-06
Google is rolling out native viewing, editing, and collaboration on Markdown (.md) files in Google Docs, plus rendered previews in Google Drive, to all Workspace customers and personal Google accounts.
Markdown is the standard text format widely used by LLMs to preserve structured content. Previously, importing Markdown into Docs altered formatting, stripped comments, and fragmented files. Now users and agents can collaborate without format conversion or raw syntax — removing a recurring friction point in AI-assisted writing workflows.
