Why don't modern LLMs know time has passed between messages?
dumierhan · x · 2026-10-06
A user points out that modern LLMs have no sense of elapsed time: in a long-running thread he revisits every few days, the model always assumes zero seconds have passed since his last message. He argues this should be trivial to fix — e.g. by injecting message timestamps into context — yet no mainstream model does it by default.
