Perplexity CEO: power users now burn $10k+/month of compute in agent loops
rohanpaul_ai · x · 2026-10-06
Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas on the extreme divergence in AI compute consumption: engineers at Meta and similar companies spend on the order of $10 million per year per engineer on coding tools, while some Perplexity Computer users spend upwards of $10,000 a month running their businesses on agent loops.
Even inside Perplexity, some employees have built multi-agent hierarchies that look like their own software architecture—Srinivas regularly asks them to explain their setups to the rest of the company. The upshot: a single power user can now consume as much compute as an entire small team, reshaping how individuals and companies budget for AI tooling.
