Google Drive and Docs now natively support Markdown files with editing and collaboration
HamelHusain · x · 2026-10-06
Google announced that Markdown files now work natively across Google Drive and Docs: you can preview .md files in Drive, open and edit them in Docs, leave comments, and collaborate — all without converting the file into a Google Doc. This removes a long-standing friction for anyone keeping Markdown notes, docs, or prompt files inside the Google ecosystem.
