Cursor SDK subagents now report back to parent, system prompt becomes replaceable
tetsuoai · x · 2026-10-06
tetsuoai details two Cursor SDK updates:
- Background subagent reporting: subagents now return results to the parent as a follow-up turn on the same run, so stream() and wait() carry through until every subagent finishes.
- MCP annotations: custom tools can carry annotations like readOnlyHint and destructiveHint, letting the model tell a lookup from a delete before calling it.
- Replaceable system prompt: you can swap Cursor's system prompt for your own while rules, skills, and tool schemas still load. The capability is being enabled account by account.
