Anthropic is removing Cowork's local-run option for Pro/Max starting tomorrow: new tasks will run in the cloud, while existing local tasks stay on users' machines. Anthropic says sessions and files now "live with your Claude account and go where you go."
A trainer who taught over 1,000 people to use Cowork this year called the move confusing — his top pitch was that it "lives on your local computer"; cloud-only makes working on local documents and maintaining session persistence much harder, and raises questions about where data lives and who can access it.
