Florida woman used Claude as a diary; Anthropic reported her threat entry to police
jedisct1 · x · 2026-10-06
Carli Michelle Heller of Bonita Springs, Florida, used Claude like a "diary" and wrote on September 26 that she planned to attack the local Sheriff's office. Claude's safety systems flagged the entry, escalated it to a human reviewer, who deemed it a credible threat and reported it to law enforcement.
Deputies visited and detained her without incident; she now faces a second-degree felony charge for making a written threat of violence under Florida law. Anthropic says it may share user information in limited emergencies to prevent death or serious physical injury, reigniting debate over privacy versus safety boundaries with AI chatbots.
