ERC to launch dedicated PE12 panel for AI fundamentals research from 2028 calls
TobyWalsh · x · 2026-10-06
The European Research Council will establish a new thematic evaluation panel, PE12 (Fundamentals of AI), starting with the 2028 calls under the EU's next R&I framework programme.
- AI-related proposals already make up a large share of submissions to the current Computer Science panel (PE6).
- PE12 will cover fundamental research in machine learning, reasoning, autonomous systems, computer vision, NLP, generative and multimodal AI, and their mathematical foundations.
- Domain-specific AI applications remain outside its scope and should go to other panels.
