Vultr books $1.2B AMD AI rack order as buyers reserve capacity years ahead
shashib · x · 2026-10-06
HPE announced on Sept 30 that cloud provider Vultr placed a $1.2 billion order for AMD Helios AI racks at its US data centers — the first order for that system. Each rack holds 72 AMD Instinct MI455X chips, 6th Gen EPYC "Venice" CPUs, Pensando networking chips and ROCm software, interconnected via six HPE switches; ship date and rack count weren't disclosed. Vultr says demand runs 30% ahead of supply. The deal signals chip supply is tight enough that smaller clouds must reserve capacity years ahead. Vultr, founded 2014 under Florida-based private company Constant, has spun up 80M+ servers serving both developers and government contracts.
