8000+ mathematicians sign anti-AI open letter; Conjecture pushes back

After OpenAI claimed to have solved the Navier–Stokes Millennium Prize Problem, about half of living Fields Medalists signed an open letter, "A Severe Misalignment of AI in Mathematics" — now at 8,000+ signatures as of October 4, 2026. Conjecture Institute mathematician Paul Robichaud and president Logan Chipkin published a rebuttal arguing AI is not a bane but an accelerant that opens new vistas for mathematics.
