NYC Council AI whistleblower panel: Kokotajlo, Coxon warn labs can't control the systems they build
sjgadler · x · 2026-10-06
At a New York City Council whistleblower panel on AI, former frontier lab employees delivered stark warnings:
- Jacob Coxon: we're on track for exceptionally capable AI systems, but not for controlling them.
- Daniel Kokotajlo: soon AI will make AI that makes AI, and it will become increasingly hard to know what's happening or to intervene.
- Alex Turner: just look at how many prior commitments these companies have betrayed—why would this time be different?
The overall tone was pessimistic about lab self-governance and alignment.
