LlamaIndex Argues Traditional OCR Is Dead, Pushes Agentic OCR With Multi-Pass Self-Correction
llama_index · x · 2026-10-06
LlamaIndex says single-pass OCR is obsolete: tables get flattened, charts vanish, multi-column layouts scramble, and nothing checks the output. Their proposed "agentic OCR" treats parsing as a loop — layout-aware reading order, smart routing of hard elements to the right model, multi-pass verification with self-correction, and multimodal parsing of charts and complex tables. Written by open source head Logan Markewich, drawing on lessons from building LlamaParse.
