Boston Dynamics gives Atlas a 13-DoF tactile hand; Runway open-sources Praxis-1 world action model

Boston Dynamics unveiled a 4-finger dexterous hand for its Atlas humanoid:
- 13 DoF: 4 for the thumb, 3 per finger
- Pressure-based tactile sensing on fingertips and palm, with grip-strength adaptation based on shape, material, and contact conditions
- Trained sim-to-real with randomization of hardware friction, motor torque variance, and disturbances
In the demo, Atlas inserted a drill bit, pulled the trigger to drill wood, tightened a small nut between fingers, and manipulated two golf balls in one hand simultaneously.
The same thread also notes Runway's open-weight Praxis-1, a world action model that turns third-person everyday video (not teleoperation demos) into robot control, with policy simulations correlating 0.95 with real-world results.
