UCSB Launches First-Ever Undergraduate AI Degree, With Vibe Coding on the Syllabus

UC Santa Barbara's new BS in AI welcomes its inaugural cohort this fall, opening with a freshman seminar taught by renowned AI researcher Xifeng Yan covering vibe coding, agentic AI, robotics, AI safety, and AI for Science. The program, built by professors Mirza, Bultan, and chair Agrawal, aims to give students a foundational, holistic view of the field — including its ethics — before they specialize.
