- Google DeepMind partnered with Nobel laureate Frances Arnold's group to launch AlphaProtein Novo (AP Novo), a pipeline for de novo enzyme design.
- It achieved SoTA "novel-scaffold" activity on 2 benchmark reactions and produced enzymes that synthesize the pharmaceutical motif piperidine and degrade the environmental toxin DEHP.
- Preprints and code are public, marking a step from protein-structure prediction toward designing functional novel enzymes.
