Economist Paul Novosad argues that carefully reading a technical paper was an act of reciprocity toward its human author — but when bad technical papers can be generated instantly, that system breaks down. AI-written papers take much longer to parse, and after wasting time giving them the benefit of the doubt, he says he won't do it anymore.
