boat launches: $20/mo full-VM sandboxes for AI agents with 2K concurrent instances
Scobleizer · x · 2026-10-05
ASCII released boat, a sandbox infrastructure for AI agents pitching itself as the cheapest full-VM option.
- Each sandbox is a full Ubuntu VM with SSH/SCP, in-VM Docker, a dedicated IP, a 60fps virtual desktop, and disk-level snapshot forking
- Pre-installed with Docker, VS Code, Chrome, GitHub CLI, Rust, Node.js, and Bun; works with Claude Code, Codex, or OpenCode
- Up to 2,000 concurrent self-serve instances
Pricing: per-second billing with a $20/mo minimum covering 2M VM-seconds (555 hours at 4 vCPU/8GB), in three size tiers; 7-day free trial with 25 compute hours. The team claims lower prices than E2B, Daytona, Modal, and Vercel Sandbox. The demo video was designed and rendered by Claude on a boat VM cluster.
