Accountant: my boss 'built' our invoicing software by copy-pasting between Replit and Claude
ChilternRailways · reddit · 2026-10-05
An accountant at a small lettings company describes how his director — a former estate agent with no dev or finance experience — 'developed' company financial software by copy-pasting between Replit and Claude:
- An invoicing module live for 2 months; the boss's latest move was asking Claude for a 'concise technical summary' of how it pulls bookings, decides invoice splits, and pushes to bookkeeping — questions that should have been settled before any code
- An 8-message exchange entirely copy-pasted between the two tools; a 4-minute gap suggests he never reads the output
- No documentation or plan; handover was a login and 'can you have a look', despite claims it was 98% complete
- No Replit Business account, yet full read/write access to bookkeeping and reservation software holding all client data
The author, who builds and reviews his own well-tested internal tools, asks how to convince the boss this approach is planting years of traps.
