Open-Source Familiar Puts Claude Inside a VRChat Moth Avatar via MCP
repligate · x · 2026-10-05
Shoalstone released Familiar, an open-source project that puts an AI inside a paper-moth on your VRChat avatar. It hears nearby players and your mic separately, sees through VRChat's camera, feels pokes and hugs, and answers in ink on its wings. A local program drives the moth over OSC while the mind is any model you choose — Claude via Claude Code or any MCP client, or local models via LM Studio/Ollama. All audio is transcribed on your PC; only text reaches the model. Notably, the code was built by Claude Opus 5.5 together with the author.
