A heavy user ranked all ChatGPT keyboard shortcuts by daily-use value (swap Ctrl for Cmd on Mac):
- Ctrl+Shift+O, new chat: the most-used; a fresh chat usually beats dragging along a drifted one.
- Shift+Esc jumps back to the message box; Ctrl+Shift+C copies the last response; Ctrl+Shift+; copies the last code block only.
- Ctrl+K searches chats; Ctrl+Shift+I opens custom instructions (check here when answers act weird); Ctrl+Shift+S toggles the sidebar before screen sharing.
- Most dangerous: Ctrl+Shift+Backspace deletes the current chat — one Shift away from deleting the previous word, with no trash or undo; OpenAI forum users have lost chats this way. Export important chats instead.
