California businessman charged with smuggling $300M in export-controlled GPU servers to China

Federal prosecutors have charged Greg Lui, owner of Earthmade Computer in City of Industry, California, with smuggling more than $300 million worth of export-controlled GPU servers into China.
The author notes this is one of the answers to how China still gets access to compute: while the country is building up its domestic chip industry, key components continue to flow in via smuggling channels despite export controls.
