Ethan Mollick pushes back on Cuban: 'learn AI better' career advice is outdated
2C_ornot2C · x · 2026-10-05
Ethan Mollick quotes Mark Cuban's classic line — "AI won't take your job, someone who knows how to use AI better than you will" — and argues that advice no longer holds:
- The durable skill of "using AI better" is unclear as AI keeps getting easier to use;
- Organizational systems, not individual workers, are increasingly the bottleneck for AI gains;
- Job impact is uncertain but may hit entire job categories.
He adds that while AI can still bring tremendous individual advantage, we should design work systems for human augmentation rather than automation — individual performance is not the only factor.
