Reinventing realtime datamoshing with shaders, DCT residuals and feedback loops
pixlpa · x · 2026-10-05
Developer pixlpa built a realtime datamoshing effect using shaders and feedback loops, recreating the classic video glitch aesthetic.
Two tricks make it convincing:
- Incorporating DCT residual color errors
- A logic pass that tells the other passes what each macroblock should be doing
The author notes they never studied XVID codec internals and simply asked AI to help explain how video codecs work.
