Driver says ChatGPT on CarPlay listened for 2 hours, then jumped in to recommend BBQ

A Reddit user reports that after installing the ChatGPT app on his iPhone, it automatically appeared on CarPlay. During a two-hour drive he asked for weather, forgot to close it, and says the assistant listened to his entire conversation with a friend. Ten minutes from their destination, he casually asked if they should find lunch — and ChatGPT suddenly interjected: "Checking... yes, there are several recommended barbecue restaurants, would you like me to list them?"
He questions whether the assistant was actively listening the whole time, having assumed the mic would shut off minutes after his last query. The post touches on the blurry line between always-ready voice assistants and user privacy expectations.
