a16z co-founder Ben Horowitz shared a wild anecdote about Kanye West: Ye called at midnight asking to come to his barbecue and record music. Despite Horowitz insisting he had no studio, Kanye's engineer rang at 6:30 AM to ask about the studio's specs anyway.
Horowitz ended up calling a friend, Howie, and having his portable studio trucked over and set up in a room at his house. Ye even played the crowd the then-unreleased The Life of Pablo album that day. "A lot more crazy stuff happened... That was a legendary day, no doubt," Horowitz recalled.
