All 39 surveyed economists agree: passive index funds beat stock picking
SpencrGreenberg · x · 2026-10-05
Two more items from Spencer Greenberg's economist-survey thread:
- Stadium subsidies: In 2017, 80% agreed state and local subsidies for pro sports stadiums likely cost taxpayers more than the local economic benefits — just 1 of 30 disagreed.
- Stock picking: In 2019, all 39 economists who answered agreed that, absent inside information, a diversified, low-fee passive index fund beats holding a few stocks.
The thread contrasts issues of near-unanimous expert agreement with those of deep division.
