To win the personal AI assistant market, buy the supply: why OpenAI or Meta should acquire marketplaces
_AustinCalvert_ · x · 2026-10-05
As Amazon restricts agents and other marketplaces follow suit, the strategic play for personal AI assistants is to own the supply rather than rent access from platforms you're trying to disintermediate—echoing Netflix's move from licensing to owning content. If OpenAI or Meta believe agents are the next consumer platform, buying Yelp ($1B), Tripadvisor ($1B), Upwork ($1B), Fiverr ($300M), Angi ($250M) or Lyft ($6B) would ensure no marketplace can hold their agent hostage.
