DeepMind researcher calls Aeon's 'brain isn't a computer' piece a strawman
emax · x · 2026-10-05
Researcher emax criticizes an Aeon essay arguing the brain is not an information-processing instrument, calling it a strawman: the piece equates information processing narrowly with symbolic and digital representations, then rejects the framing on that basis.
His counter: in the age of AI we can readily see information processing takes many forms. Properly understood, the brain is a remarkable information processor quite unlike anything artificial — and the information-processing view remains very useful.
