We anthropomorphize things that talk — why only LLMs spark consciousness debates
lovabler0gue · x · 2026-10-05
A pointed observation about AI consciousness discourse: nobody thinks image generation is "consciousness," nobody claims models have qualia when they make pictures, and nobody worries a model feels anxiety while making Excel sheets with bad forecasts.
The dividing line, the author argues, is speech — we innately anthropomorphize things that talk. That explains why LLMs trigger far more consciousness debate than any other modality: it's not a capability difference but a linguistic reflex.
