Google kills frontier model access on its $10 plan; users must pay $20 for Google AI Pro

Google is pulling frontier model access from its $10 tier: subscribers will lose Sonnet 5.5, Opus 5.5, and Gemini Pro, and must move to the $20/month Google AI Pro plan for frontier capabilities.
- The old plan was already disjointed: Antigravity (CLI/IDE/agent) offered Gemini 3.7/3.8 Flash while chat only had Gemini 3.6 Flash
- Students on the yearly freebie will also be locked into Flash-only models
- The author calls it a classic embrace-and-extend play
