The Faceless AI Video Empire
There are 278 YouTube channels with no humans on camera, totaling 221 million subscribers, 63 billion views, and an estimated $117 million a year in revenue — not a single host, narrator, or face is a real person.
Why the Algorithm Feeds It
Kapwing tested a brand-new account: of the first 500 recommended videos, 104 were AI-generated slop, and one in three fell into the broader brainrot bucket. The root cause: the recommendation system can't judge quality, only behavior. A facade with a good thumbnail and a strong first 30 seconds passes every check YouTube runs — by the time you realize it's hollow, the view already counted.
The Economics Seal It
A slop video costs a few dollars of compute while a human video costs real human time — an economics of bad money driving out good that keeps filling the platform with cardboard.
