Chalmers Builds Closed-Loop AI Scientist That Autonomously Makes Biological Discoveries
Dr_Singularity · x · 2026-10-04
Researchers at Chalmers University of Technology built a closed-loop AI laboratory combining LLM agents, automated reasoning and lab automation to study brewer's yeast. The system generates hypotheses, designs real experiments, analyzes results, and iteratively decides what to investigate next with minimal human intervention. According to author Ievgeniia Tiukova, the AI scientist actively generates new knowledge rather than just supporting decisions — a notable advance for self-driving laboratories.
