Hot take: deep learning is a computer inside a computer, less conscious than Linux
ryunuck · x · 2026-10-04
A deliberately provocative take: the author argues any 90s computer is "superintelligent" at sorting numbers and merely lacks an autopilot interface. Since deep learning also sorts numbers — just far less efficiently — it can't be that autopilot; it's a "computer inside a computer," worse and less conscious than a normal one.
Hallucinations, in this framing, come from emulating a supercomputer inside a normal machine instead of making the normal machine general. Conclusion: AI isn't conscious and is less conscious than Linux. Technically wrong on its face, but the kind of counterintuitive shitpost that travels well in AI circles.
