Google's new Gemini tiers cut free users to Flash-Lite and lock $5/month subs out of Pro
The Decoder · rss · 2026-10-04
Per The Decoder, Google will restrict free Gemini access starting October 2026: users without a subscription get only the smallest Flash-Lite model, while Flash and Pro become paid-only. Even $5/month subscribers will lose access to Pro.
The move could set the stage for the more resource-hungry Gemini 4 Argon, nudging heavy users into paid tiers to cover stronger models' inference costs. Free-tier AI access is being systematically squeezed.
