Ant's 6B open-source image model tops UI design leaderboard, paired Skill generates 4 style drafts at once

The author tested Ming-Image-0.1-Design, a 6B open-source image model from Ant's Ling team that debuted at #1 on the AA UI/UX Design open-source leaderboard — but argues the real gem is the companion open-source Ling UI Design Skill.

The pain point it solves: in UI work, the hard part isn't code, it's not knowing what you want. Iterating via text prompts traps you in a change-code-run-check-redo loop. The Skill instead generates multiple high-fidelity design mockups at once, with four built-in directions: Clean (light, whitespace, cold grays), Warm (cream/stone, terracotta accents), Dark (near-black, high contrast, glow and glass), and Bold (big headlines, saturated blocks). Pick a direction visually, then let Codex modify the code.

Setup is one prompt — tell Codex to install the Skill and it does. The Skill defaults to Novita's API key, but the author simply asked Codex to switch it to OpenRouter (where the model is free for two weeks), and Codex rewired it automatically.
