Gary Marcus challenges Anthropic researcher to public bet on AGI arriving within a couple of years
GaryMarcus · x · 2026-10-04
Anthropic researcher Sholto Douglas claimed AGI is achievable within a couple of years — models as capable as or more capable than all humans, able to do anything a human could do on a computer, potentially multiplying intellectual and physical labor and delivering centuries of progress sooner. Prominent AI skeptic Gary Marcus responded by publicly asking whether Douglas would put money on it, setting up a bet between AGI optimists and doubters.
