Developer Kautukkundan ported Meta's open-sourced Muse gadget SDK to off-the-shelf ESP32 hardware, building a Tamagotchi-like desktop AI device connected to Claude — a port Alexandr Wang amplified.
Key details
- Devices used: a cgotchi ESP32S3 (with battery), a Waveshare 1.43" AMOLED touch display, and an iPhone 12
- The official SDK only supports the Waveshare 1.75c, so firmware had to be rewritten for the 1.43c
- Region restrictions were a pain: VPN geo-hopping and changing the iPhone's region to US were needed to sign in
- Even with a device SDK token, app sign-in was still required
The port highlights Meta's open-source move and could spark a wave of DIY Muse gadget builds.
