vista8 · x · 2026-10-04
A developer has released and open-sourced qiaomu-clipper, a Chrome extension whose new "video reading mode" turns subtitled YouTube and Bilibili videos into readable, AI-queryable notes.
Key features:
- Press 'a' three times on any subtitled video to get a side-by-side player + transcript view
- Bilingual reading: Chinese translation under English captions; captions are searchable, copyable and downloadable
- Click any caption timestamp to jump back to that moment
- Highlight a passage and ask AI questions inline
- Syncs highlights and notes into Obsidian
Currently a dev build not yet on the Chrome Web Store; install from the GitHub repo (joeseesun/qiaomu-clipper). The extension also handles web clipping: clean article text, per-selection AI Q&A, and Obsidian archiving—well suited to studying long podcasts, interviews and courses.
